Giants Inquired About Ravens RB Justice Hill, Schefter Says

Key points

  • Adam Schefter says the Giants inquired about Ravens running back Justice Hill, not Derrick Henry.

  • Hill was a fourth-round pick by Baltimore in 2019 and has played his entire career under John Harbaugh until this season.

  • The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

Justice Hill is on the Giants' running back shopping list. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday that New York inquired about the Ravens back before the Nov. 10 deadline.

"Justice Hill is a running back the Giants have inquired about, according to Adam Schefter," we posted Saturday. Hill was a fourth-round pick in 2019 by Harbaugh's Ravens and has spent his entire career in Baltimore.

The report lands with Cam Skattebo doubtful and Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve, thinning New York's backfield ahead of Philadelphia.

What Schefter Said About the Giants and Justice Hill

Schefter cleared up the Henry chatter. Giants Wire and Heavy quote him saying Baltimore never considered dealing Henry before Tuesday's deadline.

"A league source told ESPN that the one Ravens running back that the Giants inquired about was Justice Hill," Schefter wrote, per Heavy.

NBC Sports framed the same note: Hill, not Henry, was the call New York made.

Why Justice Hill Fits the Giants' Backfield Search

Hill is 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds. Baltimore drafted him 113th overall in 2019 out of Oklahoma State, per Pro Football Reference.

He has appeared in 93 games with five starts. Career totals sit at 301 carries for 1,495 yards and nine rushing touchdowns, plus 136 catches for 1,017 yards and five scores, per Sports Illustrated and PFR.

Harbaugh coached him for his entire Ravens tenure. That familiarity is the obvious hook for a Giants staff still hunting backs while the Jonathan Taylor offer track stays open.

Ian Rapoport had already expected New York to be aggressive for a running back. Schefter's future-assets stance said the club will spend draft capital to upgrade.

What Comes Next Before the Nov. 10 Deadline

An inquiry is not a trade. Schefter did not say Baltimore is shopping Hill or that New York has a deal in place.

SI notes Hill is in the final year of a two-year extension. That can make a midseason move easier or push the conversation toward free agency if a deal stalls.

Three days remain before 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. The Giants still have Taylor, Hill and other backs on the board while they also shop defensive tackle help.

Our Take: A Coach Doing Everything to Win Games

My first reaction to the Hill report was interesting. The take that stuck is simpler.

When Rapoport said the Giants would be aggressive for a running back and an interior defensive lineman, I said I approve. Coach is all in.

Schefter's line that New York wants to win now matches that same read. Checking on Justice Hill fits a staff that will not sit still.

Hill is not Jonathan Taylor. He is a familiar Harbaugh piece in a thin backfield with three days left before Nov. 10. Keep making the calls.
