Giants Will Offer Future Assets to Improve, Schefter Says

Key points

  • Adam Schefter says the Giants "aren't afraid to offer future assets to improve the team."

  • ESPN cites New York's interest in Commanders DT Daron Payne before his injury as the clearest proof.

  • The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

Giants future assets are on the table, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. With the trade deadline three days away, John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen are framed as willing to spend draft capital to upgrade the roster now.

"Adam Schefter says the Giants \"aren't afraid to offer future assets to improve the team.\"" we posted Saturday. Even in Harbaugh's first season, the read is that New York will do everything possible to win right away.

Schefter and Ian Rapoport wrote that the Giants want to swing big. They are eyeing the running back and defensive tackle markets.

What Schefter Said About Giants Future Assets

The key line is not about one name. It is about price.

New York's interest in Commanders DT Daron Payne before his injury is the proof they chose. It "makes it clear that John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen see the opportunity" and "aren't afraid to offer future assets to improve the team," Schefter and Rapoport wrote.

ABC7 carried the same ESPN deadline roundup Saturday morning. The Giants graf sits alongside the Colts' Jonathan Taylor talks and other league-wide buzz.

Schefter did not say a deal is done. He said the willingness to move future picks is already visible in how New York has shopped.

Why Future Assets Matter More Than Another DL Rumor

This is a different beat than James Palmer's very aggressive defensive lineman push. Palmer described outreach. Schefter is describing what New York is willing to pay.

Ian Rapoport had already expected the Giants to be aggressive for a running back and an interior defensive lineman. Schefter's "future assets" line is the cost side of that same stance.

The RB lane still includes the Jonathan Taylor offer track. The DT lane still runs through Vita Vea, the interior priority, and even Derrick Brown as a pie-in-the-sky name.

Payne interest is the evidence Schefter chose. It is not a claim that Payne is still available after the injury. It is proof Harbaugh and Schoen will put draft capital on the table.

What Comes Next Before Nov. 10

Three days remain before the deadline, per ESPN. Schefter's report does not name the next call. It says New York will not freeze over draft-pick sticker shock.

The open question is whether a seller matches that appetite. Taylor, Vea, Brown and other DT names all still need a willing partner at a future-assets price.

Schefter did not say the Giants will finish a trade by Tuesday. He said they are not afraid to spend the picks it may take.

Our Take: Coach Wants to Win Now

When Schefter said the Giants aren't afraid to offer future assets, my read was simple: coach wants to win now.

That matches how I have felt about Harbaugh all year. He has my complete and total endorsement to add good football players for draft picks.

Stop worrying so much about draft picks. Add good players. That is still my stance with three days left.

Coach is all in. Schefter's future-assets line is another version of that same posture from the league side.

If the board opens on a difference-maker, take it. Derrick Brown would be an insanely awesome acquisition if that path is real.

The bigger point is the willingness Schefter described. Future assets are on the table before Nov. 10, and that is how a win-now coach should sound.
