Jonathan Taylor Trade Talks Turn Active With Giants Among Favorites

Key points
The Colts are having active discussions about trading Jonathan Taylor, Ian Rapoport said Sunday, and they are now open to dealing him.
The Athletic's Jonathan Jones put the Giants and Vikings among the favorites to land Taylor on Saturday.
Indianapolis wants a return like the four-pick Christian McCaffrey trade from 2022, ESPN reported.
The Jonathan Taylor market is no longer a rumor mill. The Colts are in active trade talks on their star running back. The Giants sit near the front of the line.
"The #Colts are having active discussions centered around star RB Jonathan Taylor, as the team is now open to dealing him," Ian Rapoport posted on X Sunday morning, as we shared on X.
Jonathan Jones added a key detail Saturday. "The Vikings and Giants are among the favorites to land Jonathan Taylor," he said in a post on X previewing his column for The Athletic.
Where the Jonathan Taylor Talks Stand
Rapoport's post points to the story he wrote with Adam Schefter. Multiple teams have reached out to Indianapolis, and those talks are active and ongoing, ESPN reported.
The Broncos, Packers, Vikings, Giants and Seahawks have shown some level of interest in the three-time Pro Bowler, NFL.com reported. The Colts would still prefer to keep him as part of their rebuild.
Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon met with Taylor this week for an in-depth conversation about the future, ESPN reported. Taylor said Thursday he has not asked for a trade, adding, "Whether you like it or not, the day may come."
This is a shift from where things stood when the Giants first came up as possible suitors in an Athletic report last week. Back then, Colts ownership was reported to be against a deal.
The Price Tag Is the Real Hurdle
The Colts already have at least one offer that includes a second-round pick plus more, ESPN reported. They want something closer to the 2022 deal that sent Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco for second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-round picks.
That is a much bigger ask than what Indianapolis got for two other stars this week. Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner went out for a 2027 third, a 2027 fourth and a 2028 fifth combined, per ESPN.
By the Numbers: Jonathan Taylor's Trade Value
Item | Detail |
Colts record | 2-5 |
Taylor's 2026 rushing | 587 yards, 8 TDs |
Career scrimmage yards / TDs | 9,832 / 84 |
Contract | 2 years, $44 million, through 2028 |
Average salary | $22 million (3rd among RBs) |
Source: NFL.com, as of Nov. 1, 2026.
Taylor is 27, so a buyer would not be getting a rental. He is owed $15 million in 2027 and $9.46 million in 2028, and Indianapolis already paid his $15 million signing bonus, ESPN reported.
What Comes Next for the Giants
Taylor is expected to play Sunday at Jacksonville, per ESPN. The trade deadline is Nov. 10, so any team that wants him has nine days to meet the asking price.
We broke down why the Giants and Vikings rose to the top of the list on Saturday. Former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has already said they should get Taylor in a heartbeat.
Our Take: If the Price Is Right, Make the Call
Schefter says the Colts want a McCaffrey package. My answer this morning was simple: if true, you make the deal.
Four picks sounds like a lot until you remember the 2022 Giants. That team was "ahead of schedule," and the next three years were trash. Stop worrying so much about draft picks and add good players.
John Harbaugh has my complete and total endorsement to trade picks for proven talent. Taylor is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns and is signed through 2028.
When the first list of interested teams came out, I said the Giants have to be one of them. You know how badly Harbaugh wants a stud back. Now the talks are active, and New York is near the front of the line.
