Key points
The Athletic's Jonathan Jones reported that sources believe the Giants and Vikings "could be potential suitors" for Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.
Indianapolis lost 16-10 at Minnesota to fall to 2-5, and ESPN reports the Colts are expected to field trade inquiries on Taylor.
The Colts play two more games, at Jacksonville and against Dallas, before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
The Giants now have a reported link to Jonathan Taylor, not just a wish list. The Athletic's Jonathan Jones wrote on Oct. 24 that sources see New York as a possible landing spot for the Colts' star.
"Sources believe the New York Giants and Vikings could be potential suitors for Taylor if he's available for trade," Jones wrote in his weekly column for The Athletic, as shared by Big Blue Film Room on X.
Until then, the Giants-Taylor talk was mostly opinion. Former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said they should do it "in a heartbeat," as we covered in Giants Should Get Jonathan Taylor 'in a Heartbeat,' Martindale Says.
Is Jonathan Taylor Available Now?
Not officially. Jones wrote that the Colts "are not entertaining discussions of a potential Jonathan Taylor trade. At least not yet." One executive told him, "Indy ownership loves him," and added, "They'd have to drop more games to move him," per The Big Lead.
The Colts dropped another one Sunday. They lost 16-10 at Minnesota, the other team Jones named, and fell to 2-5.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported the Colts are expected to field inquiries on Taylor, DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson. The Packers, Seahawks, Broncos and Vikings have weighed a Taylor trade, and it would likely take premium draft compensation, per RealGM's summary.
Two Colts Games Before the Deadline
Indianapolis fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19, and Ed Dodds now runs personnel. The Colts visit Jacksonville this week, then host Dallas on Nov. 8. The deadline is Nov. 10.
What Jonathan Taylor Would Bring the Giants
Taylor, 27, has back-to-back 1,400-yard seasons. He ran for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025, according to ESPN. At Minnesota, he had 18 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown.
By the Numbers: Jonathan Taylor's Last Three Seasons
Season | Carries-yards (avg.) | Rush TD |
2024 | 303-1,431 (4.7) | 11 |
2025 | 323-1,585 (4.9) | 18 |
2026 (7 games) | 140-587 (4.2) | 8 |

His 2026 average is down to 4.2 yards per carry. He also signed a two-year, $44 million extension in August and is under contract through 2028, so he would not be a rental.
The Giants' backfield just had its best day. Cam Skattebo ran for a career-high 124 yards as the lead back in Houston, as we covered in Cam Skattebo Reclaims Giants' Lead Back Role.
He tweaked his hamstring in overtime but should be OK after the bye, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
The interest hasn't gone away. The New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy hears the Giants will invest in a high-end back when the time is right, Pro Football Rumors noted.
Our Take: The Giants Should Be Ready if the Colts Sell
Last week I said this is the most winnable NFC East since 2020. The Giants should very seriously look at a trade for a player like Taylor, and this report says the league sees the fit, too.
When Stephen Holder reported that multiple teams were open to a Taylor trade, I wrote that the Giants have to be one of them. I'd rather they chase Taylor than Brian Thomas Jr.
I still don't know if a deal actually happens. Skattebo just showed what he can do, and the Colts haven't said they're selling.
But I remember 2022. The Giants were in first place, I badly wanted a receiver, and they kept the picks. The next three years didn't work out great, so if Indianapolis picks up the phone, answer it.
