Key points

  • The Colts are now open to trading Jonathan Taylor, and talks with multiple teams are active, ESPN reported.

  • The Vikings and Giants are among the favorites to land Taylor, The Athletic's Jonathan Jones said.

  • Indianapolis has an offer with a second-round pick plus more, and it wants a package like the 2022 Christian McCaffrey trade.

The Jonathan Taylor sweepstakes finally has a green light. The Colts are willing to deal their star running back, and the Giants are in the group of teams considered most likely to get him.

"The Vikings and Giants are among the favorites to land Jonathan Taylor," Jonathan Jones posted on X Saturday from his column for The Athletic, as we shared on X.

That came hours after Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported the Colts are now open to trading Taylor, according to ESPN.

The Colts Are Taking Calls on Jonathan Taylor

Multiple teams have reached out to Indianapolis, and the talks are active and ongoing, ESPN reported. The Broncos, Packers, Vikings, Giants and Seahawks have all shown at least some level of interest.

The Colts would still prefer to keep Taylor as part of their rebuild. Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon met with him this week for what sources called an in-depth conversation about the future.

Taylor said Thursday he has not asked for a trade. "Whether you like it or not, the day may come," he said, per ESPN.

What the Colts Want for Jonathan Taylor

Indianapolis already has at least one offer that includes a second-round pick plus more, ESPN reported. The Colts want something closer to what Carolina got for Christian McCaffrey in 2022: second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-round picks.

That is a step up from the "2nd round pick, plus" price Jordan Raanan floated for the Giants earlier this week.

That contract helps any buyer. Taylor is 27, and the Colts already paid his $15 million signing bonus before the season.

What's Next for the Giants

The Giants first came up as possible suitors in an Athletic report last week. Wink Martindale said they should get Taylor in a heartbeat.

Taylor is expected to play Sunday against Jacksonville. The trade deadline is Nov. 10, so the Giants have 10 days to decide whether to meet the price.

Our Take: The Giants Have to Push for Jonathan Taylor

I said back on Oct. 21 that the Giants should very seriously look at a trade for a player like Taylor. Now he is actually available, and they are reportedly near the front of the line.

When the first list of suitors came out, I said the Giants have to be one of them. You know how badly Harbaugh wants a stud back.

I also said I would rather see them chase Taylor than Brian Thomas Jr. That has not changed.

The price is steep, and a McCaffrey-style package is a lot of picks. But if Harbaugh adds a running back, I want it to be a true difference-maker like Taylor. A back tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns fits that description.
