Key points

  • Ian O'Connor said the motivation is certainly there for the Giants to get a trade done before the deadline.

  • The comment came after John Harbaugh said Monday that New York is making every call on available players.

  • The Giants remain linked to Jonathan Taylor and other deadline targets with one week left until Nov. 10.

The Giants want a deal done. That is how Ian O'Connor reads the room.

O'Connor replied on X when asked if a deal is coming: "The motivation is certainly there to get one done." We shared it Tuesday.

Giants Phones Are Hot After Harbaugh's Comments

O'Connor's line lands next to what John Harbaugh told reporters Monday. "We're making every call," Harbaugh said, as we covered overnight, in order to see who is available and for what price.

Harbaugh also said the Giants are turning over every stone and are not apologizing for it. That public stance is what O'Connor is reacting to.

O'Connor had already flagged another Harbaugh detail Monday night. He noted that Harbaugh does not want a "one-and-done" rental. That points toward longer fits such as Jonathan Taylor, O'Connor posted.

Where the Giants Trade Market Stands

The Colts' listening stance on Taylor keeps the Giants in the conversation. New York has been named among the favorites in recent reporting, and Harbaugh's buyer tone matches that track.

None of that guarantees a close, but the motivation O'Connor described is not sitting in a vacuum. The coach is calling, the market is open, and the calendar is short.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan expects the Giants to be active at the deadline. The Colts are in active talks on Jonathan Taylor, and New York has been named among the favorites.

Motivation is only half the equation. The other half is the asking price. Indianapolis still wants a package closer to the Christian McCaffrey deal from 2022, ESPN reported.

By the Numbers: Giants Deadline Pressure

That clock favors teams that finish early. A new piece who can practice this week helps more than a name that lands after kickoff cards are already set.

What Comes Next for the Giants

The Giants sit with a short pick supply for 2027, which is why Harbaugh talked about shopping smart. That does not cancel the buyer stance. It just means any deal has to clear a real fit test, not only a short-term hole.

O'Connor's read also matches the public cadence around Jonathan Taylor. The Colts are listening, New York has been named near the front of the line, and Harbaugh keeps saying the phones are open.

A week remains until the deadline. Harbaugh has already left calls that made national noise, including his outreach on Jeffery Simmons before Chicago landed him, per ESPN.

If O'Connor is right, the next test is price. Can New York match a seller before the calendar eats the value of any addition?

Our Take: Motivation Matches the Coach

Coach Harbaugh is all in. That is the message I wanted to hear with the Giants sitting first in the East and a short week on the board.

He wants to make a deal. O'Connor saying the motivation is there just restates what Harbaugh already showed on Monday night.

I still can't believe he is the head coach of the Giants. We are lucky. He is not worried about who gets offended by a phone call across the league.

That is the energy you want in a deadline week. Motivation without a close is just talk, and talk does not help you on Sunday.

But Harbaugh has already made the calls. Now the front office has to finish one before the calendar eats the value of any addition.
