Key points

  • John Harbaugh said Monday the Giants are "turning over every stone" before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

  • He said the Giants are "not apologizing" for making every call, including his voicemail to the Titans owner.

  • Harbaugh wants any deal to be a "short-term and a long-term win," and Jonathan Taylor remains linked to New York.

John Harbaugh made it clear Monday that the Giants are working every angle before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. He also made it clear that he is not sorry about it.

Big Blue Film Room shared the quote on X Monday night. "We're turning over every stone. We're making every call," Harbaugh said, per the Giants' transcript. "And we are not apologizing for that at any point in time ever."

The comments came as the Giants returned from their bye week. Harbaugh confirmed he left a voicemail for Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk about Jeffery Simmons. Simmons was then traded to the Bears for multiple first-round picks, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

John Harbaugh Says the Giants Are 'Open for Any Call'

Harbaugh pushed back on the idea that trade talks should stay between general managers. "We're not part of any secret society oath that says you can only talk to somebody," he said. "We didn't get memoed on that."

He said the process is transparent inside the building. "I know who Joe's calling, Joe knows if I'm calling somebody," Harbaugh said of general manager Joe Schoen. We covered the original Simmons call report last week.

Harbaugh also joked about the attention, asking reporters to name the song "Call Me Maybe." As the New York Post put it, he sounded more like "Call Us Definitely."

Where Jonathan Taylor Fits

The Giants have interest in Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, sources told ESPN, and a deal is expected to cost multiple high picks. We have tracked the active Taylor talks with the Colts and Raanan's view that New York will be active at the deadline.

Running back is a need. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is on injured reserve, and Cam Skattebo (hamstring) worked on the side Monday, per ESPN.

Harbaugh does not want a rental. "You want to have a short-term and a long-term win if you're going to do it with draft capital," he said, per the Post. Taylor is under contract beyond this season.

What Comes Next for John Harbaugh and the Giants

The short pick supply makes the Giants "smart shoppers," Harbaugh said. Asked about trading 2028 picks, he said, "it's easier to put it on the credit card."

The players are on board. "I'm never opposed to trying to figure out ways to have a better roster," left tackle Andrew Thomas told ESPN.

Our Take: John Harbaugh Is All In

My reaction to the quote was simple: Coach Harbaugh is all in. That is exactly what you want to hear from a head coach whose team is leading the division in November.

After the "Call Me Maybe" bit, I said it plainly: I can't believe he's the head coach of the Giants. We are lucky. He is not worried about who gets offended by a phone call.

I've also said that Harbaugh has my complete and total endorsement to add good football players in exchange for draft picks. His "short-term and long-term win" line is why Jonathan Taylor makes sense. He is not a rental.

The price will be steep, and only five 2027 picks make it harder. But with eight days left, this is the time to be aggressive.
