Cam Skattebo's hamstring led Wednesday's Giants news, as NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the running back should be OK after a scare in overtime at Houston. JJ McCarthy's Week 7 big-time throw rate and Emmanuel Acho's refusal to apologize filled out the day. Here is every story Big Blue Film Room published on Oct. 28, 2026, most important first.

Cam Skattebo should be OK after hurting his hamstring in the Giants' 27-21 overtime win at Houston, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, in an update shared by Big Blue Film Room on X. He felt it on his 42-yard run in overtime, the play before Devin Singletary's 30-yard winning score. "Good thing we have a bye week," Skattebo told ESPN's Dan Graziano, per USA Today.

JJ McCarthy posted a 10.3% big-time throw rate in his first Giants start, second only to Joe Burrow among Week 7 quarterbacks. PFF counts a big-time throw as any pass graded +1.0 or better on its -2.0 to +2.0 scale, a ball thrown "deeper down the field, into a tighter window." Across the 2025 sample, such throws made up roughly 4.1% of dropbacks, per PFF.

McCarthy didn't throw a touchdown pass, as all four Giants touchdowns came on the ground. But Jordan Raanan's numbers had him second in Week 7 at 9.9 air yards per attempt and 4 of 4 on tight-window throws, while facing pressure on 46.7% of dropbacks. In 2025 with Minnesota, his 7.3% big-time throw rate trailed only one quarterback, but PFF charted only 51.7% of his throws as accurate, per DAZN. Vincent Rapisardi, who writes as @Gridiron_Media, pushed back on people who said McCarthy had no upside.

Emmanuel Acho isn't backing down. "I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE TO JJ MCCARTHY!... But I will applaud," the former NFL linebacker said in a line posted by Speakeasy late Sunday night. On Oct. 22, Acho had predicted, "JJ McCarthy bouta go out there and STINK IT UP! His starting job will be very quickly taken away."

Instead, McCarthy went 20 of 28 for 252 yards with no interceptions and a 99.1 passer rating in the win. Former All-Pro safety Justin Simmons went the other way on CBS Sports HQ: "Hand up accountability. That's on me. Giants fans, I apologize." Pro Football Network ranked McCarthy 17th among Week 7 quarterbacks with a QB Impact Score of 72.3. On X, @Gridiron_Media's verdict was simpler: the Giants have themselves a quarterback.
