Monday's Giants news was all about Sunday's 27-21 overtime win in Houston, where JJ McCarthy won his first Giants start and Cam Skattebo took back the lead back job. Abdul Carter's six-pressure afternoon and a guide to how PFF grades work round out the day. Here is every story Big Blue Film Room published on Oct. 26, 2026, most important first.
Devin Singletary's 30-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the Giants a 27-21 win at Houston and a 4-2-1 record entering the bye. Houston received the overtime kickoff and went three-and-out. Skattebo broke a 42-yard run, and Singletary scored on the next play, the longest walk-off touchdown run by a Giant in overtime, according to Giants.com.
JJ McCarthy got the start over Jameis Winston and went 20 of 28 for 252 yards with no turnovers and a 99.1 passer rating. Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 111 yards, his fourth straight 100-yard game. Four Giants ran for touchdowns, the first time that had happened since 1950. The defense, without Jevon Holland, Greg Newsome II and Tremaine Edmunds, held Houston to 84 rushing yards. The caveat is the kicking: Dominic Zvada missed both of his field goal attempts, including a 56-yarder.
Cam Skattebo went from zero carries in Week 6 to a career-high 124 rushing yards in Houston. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that the Giants would return to their original plan with Skattebo as the lead back. That is how it played out: he had 17 of the team's 34 carries and averaged 7.3 yards per carry, per the ESPN box score.
His 16-yard touchdown run gave the Giants a 21-14 lead with 8:55 left in regulation, and his 42-yard run in overtime set up the winning score. Skattebo had been demoted after his overtime fumble in the Week 5 tie with Washington, his fourth fumble of the season. He did not fumble Sunday. Tyrone Tracy Jr. left with a hamstring injury after six carries for 15 yards, and his health may shape the split behind Skattebo after the Week 8 bye.
Abdul Carter spent Sunday in the Texans' backfield. The second-year edge rusher posted six pressures and a 90.9 PFF grade in the overtime win. The finish still wasn't there: four tackles, two of them solo, and no sacks, tackles for loss or QB hits, per the ESPN box score.
That gap has defined much of his season. Carter entered Week 7 tied for the top spot among edge rushers in ESPN's pass rush win rate, with an 87.9 season grade from PFF that ranked third among 115 qualifying edge rushers. His win rate says he beats blockers early, but the sacks have not followed at the same pace. The bye gives him time to clean up the finish before the Giants visit Philadelphia on Nov. 8, a real test of whether the pressures start turning into sacks against a division rival.
Big Blue Film Room also published a guide to how Pro Football Focus grades players, built on PFF's own explanation of its system. Analysts grade every player on every snap from -2 to +2 in half-point steps, with 0 meaning the player did what was expected. Those play grades are adjusted for the situation and converted to a 0-100 scale for each game and season. A season grade is not an average of game grades.
The guide uses Giants examples. DJ Reader's 90.9 season grade leads all 126 qualified interior defensive linemen through Week 7, and Carter's 90.2 ranks third among 112 edge defenders with two sacks, because PFF credits his 27 pressures. It also covers what grades leave out: they don't adjust for how valuable a position is, and they are charted by people. The takeaway is to read the grades alongside the stats, not instead of them.
