Key points
Cam Skattebo worked on the side with trainers at Giants practice Wednesday, per The Athletic's Dan Duggan.
John Harbaugh called Skattebo day-to-day this week with the hamstring he hurt late in the Week 7 win at Houston.
With Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve, the Giants are thin at running back before Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
Cam Skattebo is still not practicing with the team. The Giants running back was working on the side with trainers at Wednesday's practice, per The Athletic's Dan Duggan.
"Cam Skattebo was working on the side with trainers today at practice, per Dan Duggan," we posted Wednesday. It was the same spot he was in Monday, when the Giants returned from their bye.
Skattebo hurt his hamstring late in the 27-21 overtime win over the Texans on Oct. 25. The injury came at the end of his 42-yard run in overtime, which set up Devin Singletary's game-winning touchdown.
Cam Skattebo Is Day-to-Day, Harbaugh Says
The Giants first called the injury minor. As we covered during the bye, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Skattebo should be OK.
He was still on the side field Monday. Harbaugh said Skattebo would be "probably day-to-day up to the game," per Giants Wire.
"I'll probably have more information toward the end of the week," Harbaugh said. He added that Tracy's injury is "a little tougher one than Skatt."
Skattebo could be a game-time call for Sunday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reported, via CBS Sports.
A Thin Giants Backfield
The timing is rough. The Giants placed Tracy on injured reserve with a hamstring injury during the bye, per Giants.com. He has to miss at least four games.
To refill the room, they signed Gregory Desrosiers off the Chargers' practice squad. On Monday, they brought back Eric Gray on the practice squad.
If Skattebo can't go, Singletary would be the next man up. Desrosiers, an undrafted rookie, has yet to take a regular-season snap for New York.

What Skattebo Did Before the Injury
Skattebo was coming off his best game of the season. He ran 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown at Houston, per the ESPN box score.
That came one week after he got no touches against the Saints. He reclaimed the lead back role with that performance.
What Comes Next
The 4-2-1 Giants visit the 2-6 Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. They host Washington four days later on Thursday night.
Two games in five days makes the call on Skattebo harder. Friday's injury report should give the clearest answer.
Our Take: The Giants Need Their Best Back
I have been clear about Skattebo. Cam is the best back they have, and he needs to be featured.
Before Houston, I said the Giants should get the run game going and feature Cam. He answered with 124 yards, and I loved the revenge game.
I still think Tracy is a good running back, but he is on IR. That leaves very little behind Skattebo.
I don't have inside knowledge of how the hamstring feels. Working on the side twice this week is something to watch, not a reason to panic.
If he is right, he should carry this offense in Philadelphia. If he is not, the Giants have two divisional games in five days, and they will need him healthy for both.
