Sunday's Giants news centered on a shorthanded defense before kickoff at Houston: Jevon Holland was ruled out with a concussion, and Micah McFadden was expected to take over the green dot from the injured Tremaine Edmunds. Jalin Hyatt's call-up and a look at the 11 games left on the schedule round out the day. Here is every story Big Blue Film Room published on Oct. 25, 2026, most important first.
Jevon Holland was ruled out of Sunday's game at Houston, The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported Saturday. The safety had been in the concussion protocol since the Week 6 loss to the Saints and was downgraded from questionable to out. He did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday and Friday, but he had not been cleared by an independent neurologist, according to RotoWire via CBS Sports.
Ar'Darius Washington was expected to start at free safety, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported. The 26-year-old spent his first five seasons with John Harbaugh's Ravens before signing with the Giants in March. The loss is a big one: Holland was the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, with an interception in each of the first three games and an NFL-leading four takeaways, per Giants.com. Tyler Nubin (neck) was questionable, and tight end Theo Johnson (neck) was also ruled out.
With Tremaine Edmunds out for the season, Micah McFadden was expected to start and wear the green dot, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported Friday. The green dot is the one defensive helmet with a radio, and it carries Dennard Wilson's calls to the other 10 players. McFadden has done the job before. In December 2024, with Bobby Okereke out, he relayed Shane Bowen's calls and made 11 tackles in each of two games.
The plan was not locked in. NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater reported that McFadden would probably handle the calls, but the Giants had not ruled out rookie Arvell Reese, who has played nearly every defensive snap. The caveat is workload: McFadden has spent most of 2026 on special teams, and Wilson took over the defense this year. "It's a big responsibility," McFadden said of the role in 2024.
The Giants elevated wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and safety Raheem Layne from the practice squad Saturday, putting Hyatt in line for his first game of the season. The 2023 third-round pick had spent all of 2026 on the practice squad after signing there Aug. 31. The same day, Paulson Adebo was activated from injured reserve and Edmunds went on injured reserve, according to Giants.com.
Hyatt has 36 catches for 470 yards and no touchdowns in 41 career games. His rookie year was his best, when his 16.2 yards per catch led the team, and his production fell in each season after that. Layne, an undrafted free agent from Indiana, adds depth with Holland out and Nubin questionable. Both players revert to the practice squad after the game unless signed, and Hyatt can be elevated two more times this season.
Big Blue Film Room also published a guide to the 11 games left on the Giants' schedule, built on opponent records through Week 6 from Pro Football Reference. The 3-2-1 start came against opponents who are a combined 10-25-1. The remaining opponents are 31-33-1, a .485 winning percentage.
The next three games, against Houston, Philadelphia and Washington, look the most favorable at a combined 5-12-1, and that stretch should give the Giants a full picture of JJ McCarthy, who makes his first start at Houston. Weeks 11 through 16 are the hardest stretch on paper: Jacksonville, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Seattle, Cleveland and Detroit are a combined 22-13, led by unbeaten San Francisco.
Four of the last 11 games are in the NFC East, where all three rivals have losing records. The trade deadline is Nov. 10. The records will move every week, and the guide will be updated as they do.
